Van Der Saar and Buffon both staked a claim on the goalkeeper position, but Iker Casillas was consistently good for Spain and is a worthy recipient of the award.

Iker rose above his best quality and lifting the final trophy at Wien. He had the help of a good and solid defense block but his prowness and security gave him the post.
Villa made his international début in 2005. He has since participated in three major tournaments, becoming an integral member of the Spain teams that won Euro 2008 and the2010 World Cup. He scored three goals at the 2006 World Cup, was top scorer at Euro 2008 and earned Silver Boot at the 2010 World Cup. With 44 goals, Villa is Spain's joint all-time top goalscorer with Raúl González and has also scored more World Cup goals than any other player in Spain's history.[7] His goals-to-games ratio at World Cup matches is higher than the competition's all-time top scorer, Ronaldo, while the goals-to-games ratio he has achieved for the national team has not been matched by any Spaniard since Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Despite sustaining a serious injury as a child, he started his professional career withSporting de Gijón. He moved to Real Zaragoza after two seasons, where he made his La Ligadébut, winning his first senior honours - the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España. He joined Valencia CF in 2005 for a transfer fee of €12 million and was part of the Valencia team that won the Copa del Rey in the 2007–08 season. In 2010 he moved to FC Barcelona for €40 million.

City had been prepared to break their own Premier League transfer fee record with a reported bid of around £40 million. But, according to the Mirror, they have been told that Valencia will not go lower than the aforementioned figure despite their current financial problems.
The news will come as a huge blow to manager Mark Hughes who has made no secret of the fact that the 27-year-old was his top target for January after being impressed by his performance for Spain in Euro 2008.
And despite their new found wealth, it seems City will now have to turn their attentions to securing another striker if they are to climb their way back up the table in the new year.
Despite having shown an interest in a move to the Premier League, Villa himself has no influence on making the transfer happen.
Further headache for Hughes is news that Brazilian striker Robinho may not be fit for their weekend clash against West Brom.

Arguably Arsenal's finest dribbler, Samir is a cultured, creative midfielder with an eye for a pass and he is equally effective in a central role or cutting inside from the left.

At his best he can bewilder entire defences - just ask Porto, the victims of Samir's stunning solo effort in the Champions League last season.
Despite playing in the shadow of Brazilian maestro Diego at Werder Bremen, Mezut Ozil, a 19-year-old playmaker has earned himself the nickname “Der Neue Diego” ("the new Diego").  As he sets out to prove that he has the potential to live up to his more celebrated Brazilian team mate.

Mesut Ozil is a central attacking midfielder, also capable of playing on the left flank, he is an exciting player that has powered himself into
Bremen's starting lineup with some dazzling displays in recent weeks. Ozil’s estimated market value is €6,000K, although this is sure to go up following some terrific recent performances.

Ozil was prominent as Werder scored five in consecutive weeks against Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim at the end of September 2007. The playmaker set up two and scored a fine goal against Bayern Munich and then a week later he scored two against Hoffenheim in a 5-4 thriller, with both goals coming from his powerful left-foot.

His performance against the “Village Team” was notable as the home side had been pegged back to 4-4 after leading the match 4-1 and it was Ozil who popped up with the winner. And it is not just in the Bundesliga where the German Under-21 is thriving. He also proved that he can play in the Champions League when his perfect cross found Claudio Pizzaro who scored Bremen's equalizer in the San Siro against Italian giants Inter Milan.

Last January
Bremen paid 4.3 million euros to grab this 5.9ft playmaker from FC Schalke 04. Ozil is one of the most talented players to come out of Schalke's youth academy in recent years, and he made his debut for the senior team at the age of 17 and also played in the Champions League for “The Royal Blues.”

Ozil’s relationship with Schalke deteriorated when the young starlet refused to renew his contract, and he was dropped from the team. As his contract was due to expire, Schalke were forced to sell him and
Bremen were so convinced by his talent that they paid a record German transfer fee for a teenager.

According to the transfer gossip pages Manchester UnitedArsenal and Bayern Munich were also interested in Ozil before he moved to Schalke on the final day of the transfer window on
January 31, 2008.

He decided to play for
Bremen, since the pressure to perform at Werder is not as high as in Europe's biggest clubs. Some commentators predicted the youngster would struggle without the support of his family, who are of Turkish descent, who stayed behind in his home town of Gelsenkirchen. Bremen were patient with the young star, who played 12 league games and scored one goal last season and now they are reaping the benefits.

He has been selected as player of the month in September by the famous German football magazine Kicker, and
Bremen's sports chief Klaus Allofsis a big fan: "For me it is only a matter of time until he plays in the national team. He has the potential. But he must be more stable and strengthen himself. Physically he is not yet at the required level, he lacks a bit of robustness."

And full international recognition for Ozil cannot be far off. Ozil has excelled at Under-21 level scoring four goals in eight games and this attacking central midfielder with a cultured left foot is all set to be one of the biggest stars in
Europe.

Ozil was selected in the German squad for the 2010 Fifa World Cup and gave some outstanding performances and proved to be an important part for their team especially against Argentina in the Quarter Finals. Germany finished third in the tournoment and Ozil was one of the ten contenders of the Golden Ball award.

Spanish Giants, Real Madrid were impressed by his performance and took him on loan from Berder Bremen. Soon he became a part of their Starting 11 . Along with German team mate, Ozil has played magnificiently in many matches and has become one of the fan's favourites.
Mesut Özil Biography: Mesut Özil born (15 October 1988 in Gelsenkirchen) is a German professional footballer of Turkish descent.
mes'ut ozil began his youth career playing for different clubs in Gelsenkirchen and five years for Rot-Weiss Essen. In 2005, wakey is a noob he moved to the youth department of Schalke 04. He is a midfielder and wears 11 as his squad number, after starting as playmaker and central attacking midfielder in the place of the suspended Lincoln in Ligapokal matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich for Schalke.

Kaka made his debut for Brazil in a 2002 friendly against Bolivia. That summer he was a member of the 2002 World Cup-winning squad but received very little playing time. In 2005, Kaka was included in Brazil’s squad for the FIFA Confederations Cup and played all five matches, including a goal-scoring performance in the final, while in 2006 he started in his first World Cup. He has been a Seleção mainstay ever since
Kaka played in 30 matches and scored ten goals en route to the Scudetto and Italian Super Cup in his first year with Milan. In 2005, the attacking midfielder almost single-handedly carried his team to the Champions League final, which Milan lost in a penalty shootout against Liverpool. In 2007, Kaka became the focal point of Milan’s offense and added Champions League and Club World Cup titles to his trophy case. That same year he went on to win all the top individual accolades, including the Ballon d’Or, FIFA World Player of the Year and FIFPro World Player of the Year.
Kaka is the complete package. His vision of the game is unparalleled and his shooting ability strikes fear into opponents. No one in Europe can control the tempo like the Brazilian. He is a consistent assist-man who concludes every season with more than a handful of goals. Kaka’s leadership skills allow him to shoulder any responsibilities that may arise. He’s a man whose football career has been based on his quiet, out-of-the-spotlight life and strong religious convictions.

During his youth team years, Kaka tended to stand out above the rest. Sao Paulo first took notice and by 2001 he had earned a starting spot with the first team, played in 27 matches and scored 12 goals. The following season he knocked in ten goals in 22 matches. After leading Sao Paulo to the Super Campeonato Paulista title in 2002, Kaka debuted with the Brazilian national team. By then, steady European interest in the 21-year old culminated in his signing with AC Milan.

Torres started his career with Atlético Madrid, progressing through their youth system. He made his first team debut in 2001 and finished his career with the club having scored 75 goals in 174 La Liga appearances. Prior to his La Liga debut, Torres played two seasons in theSegunda División, making 40 appearances and scoring seven goals. He joined Premier League club Liverpool in 2007 after signing for a club record transfer fee. He marked his first season at Anfield by being Liverpool's first player, since Robbie Fowler in the 1995–96season, to score more than 20 league goals in a season. Torres became the fastest player in Liverpool history to score 50 league goals after scoring against Aston Villa in December 2009.
Torres is also a Spanish international and made his debut for the country against Portugal in 2003. He has since participated in four major tournaments, UEFA Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World CupUEFA Euro 2008 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Torres did not score at Euro 2004, but netted three at the 2006 World Cup. He scored twice at UEFA Euro 2008, including the winning goal for Spain in their 1–0 win over Germany in the final. Spain won the 2010 World Cup, despite Torres not scoring any goals.

After a year riddled with injuries and poor performances with both Liverpool and national team Spain at the World Cup this past summer, 2011 is a welcomed new change for the Spanish ace.
Not all was bad for the El Niño, who so happened to have a niño of his own this past month, baby leo anyone?
Even though he wasn’t in the best of form this past year, Torres along side his Spanish comrades took the 2010 World Cup, blowing out the German armada, who were demolishing through tournament heavy weights England and Argentina.
Even though 2010 tested Torres by dragging him through the ringers, it can be said such experiences will only better the number ’9′.
Let’s hope Torres can learn from his past trails and tribulations to make 2011 a smashing success both in his football career and in life. To the new year!
On a side note, I’ve missing the latest picture updates, so I’ll post the following…..

Copa del Rey: Barcelona crushed Almeria and almost secured their place in the final

Guardiola's side got an impressive 5-0 win in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Almeria. Only a complete disaster in the next game would keep Barcelona from playing in the final game of the "Copa del Rey".

Lionel Messi was the star, once again, scoring twice. The other goals were netted by David Villa,Keita and Pedrito. Almeria had no chance against an inspired team.

The front men in Barcelona were extremely precise tonight. Messi, Pedro and Villa were a constant nightmare for Garcia, Pellerano and Macedo. Goalkeeper Esteban had nothing to do in the five goals.

J. Luis Oltra's team had an amazing campaign that reached the peak by playing in this semifinals. But it seems like it will be impossible to beat Barcelona for more than 5 goals in their second game.
"Real Madrid will be the best of 2010," he warned, without modesty. For the projection becomes reality, you need to debunk the Catalans, whose features are constantly observed by the players meringues.

"We can not be hypocrites. We must think only of ourselves, but of course we talked about Barcelona (in the locker room)," he said, referring to rival that is the current world champion, Spanish, European and Copa del Rey.

We can now say FC Barcelona is officially the best football team in the world, three of its players were nominated to have the great chance of winning the Ballon d’Or this year, bothIniesta and Xavi were really sucesfull last year – Iniesta scored the winning goal at the World Cup final against the Netherlands and Xavi was also an important cornerstone to the natioanl team of Spain and to FC Barcelona as well – but ultimately Messi won the FIFA Ballon d’Or last night in Zurich.
Messi obtained 22.65 per cent of the votes for the Ballon d’Or, beating out Iniesta‘s 17.36 per cent and Xavi‘s 16.48 per cent. Check out the votes here.
He won the FIFA Player of the Year award and the Ballon d’Or prize last year as well, these two have now finally merged into this one Ballon d’Or award.  Messi has won the Ballon d’Ortwice in a row (2009, 2010) which really rarely happens to any football players, althoughRonaldinho won FIFA Player of the Year prize twice in 2004 and 2005, while he was also playing for FC Barcelona.
With this honour and his performance we can easily say that Lionel Messi is the most gifted football player of this era and really deserved the Ballon d’Or again. In 2010 he scored 60 goals in total to his club and country, he was also La Liga’s top scorer, 34 goals in 35 appearances!

GREAT PLAY MESSI, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Kitbag is also running a competition where you can win a Lionel Messi signed boot. All you have to do is buy anything from the Adidas F50i Football Boots Range between now and end of July 2009 and you will be automatically entered into a prize draw for the signed boot. Don’t miss this golden opportunity!

The best kept secret in football is out, Lionel Messi will wear the new Adidas F50ifootball boots in the Champions League final.

As if pairing Manchester United and Barcelona together to slug out the world’s biggest club football tournament wasn’t enough, it’s now officially confirmed that Lionel Messi will also be showcasing a new pair of F50i football boots to top things off.
Since we revealed months ago that the F50i was hitting the shelves this summer and following our article on the tease images being stuck on posters around London, the clued up ones amongst you (that accounts for all the Footy Boots visitors) probably guessed that Messi would be showcasing the new F50i football boots in the final.
